Hello we are back from our two day road trip.
We left Mendoza a few days ago and caught the bus down to Barlioche which is a beautiful little town nestled in the mountains which reminds us strongly of the ski towns of Whistler and Banff. It?s also very famous for it?s chocolate and they have shops everywhere, it?s absolute heaven but I haven?t gone too mad, yet!!...................we?d met a Kiwi couple a few days before and had arranged to meet them here so we could hire a car togther.
Next day we picked up our Chevrolet Corsa although we?d lost the Ch so we had to drive a evrolet!! It was a great car and fit us all in comfortably unless you were sitting behind Steve when he was driving. We headed off to San Martin which is a fantastic drive through the mountains and lakes and is known as the seven lakes route. Unfortunatley a large amount of the road was unpaved so we had some moments when the botton of the car would drag on the rocks on the road and it was so steep the the car almost didn?t make it up. It was a fantastic trip stopping off in little campsites (too cold to camp this time of year) for lunch and the weather was fantastic with clear blue skies and amazing scenery.
We only stayed one night in San Martin but managed to rent our own cabin/house for the night which cost us less than staying in the hostel!! We had our own kitchen, two bedrooms and of course a great view. We cooked an amazing meal (thanks Jules for the scallop potatoes) and drank far too much wine.
The next day we headed out to do a canopy course which is basically a series of wires between trees which you slide along about 5 meters up in the trees and attempt to break before you crash into the next tree. You also can?t break too early otherwise you have to pull yourself along the wire to?get to the next station.?We also got a great view of the mountains because it is autumn and most of the leaves are falling off.?
We then headed back along the seven lakes road back to Bariloche in time to head out to a restaurant that serves football sized steaks, thankfully for me they did half portions too. Then it was out to the bars for some drinking and dancing until the early hours of the morning.
It?s our last day here in Bariloche which I hope to spend sampling the chocolate delights here and eating some more delicious food. Tonight we?re heading down, almost to the furthest point in Argentina, on a massive 28 hour bus trip and it?s going to be bloody cold.
