Nic's & Matt's Trip
We drove to the Blue Mountains, which is about a an hour and half drive to get into the region and then another hour plus to get to places within the region.
We drove initially to Katoomba, to have a look at the Three Sisters view. The weather was awful though, and all you could see was a grey mist and a sheet of rain covering everything! So we decided to go to the Jenolan Caves, as they were sheltered and it didn't look like rain was going to stop.
We drove for about another hour, down some very very scary windy deserted roads and finally got to the caves. You actually drive through the caves to get to the car park which is pretty cool.
There are a number of caves, and they all have different tours, varying in length and difficulty. As we are a bit pathetic (well I am) we decided to do the easiest and shortest, which was the Chifley Cave. As that didn't start for a couple of hours, we had something to eat in the 'Bistro' (was full of people in anoraks), and then went on the 'River Walk', which was about an hour and a half through some really lovely scenery. The lakes were bright green (but didn't look mouldy) and there were loads of waterfalls (and it made a refereshing change that there was no climbing involved to see the waterfalls!).
The caves themselves were gorgeous, like a completely different world. There were only another six people plus the guide on our tour, which was good. The guide was really passionate about the caves, and told us stories about all the different limestone formations. You had to have quite a good imagination to see some of the names that he was pointing out, but they were really lovely to look at.
Apparently all the caves have bats but they are still asleep for a few weeks so I want to go back before I go home to see the bats....!! And I might do the river cave which is further below and sounded really nice, though quite hard work!
