A morning visit to see the statue of David at Accademia Gallery. It is 17ft high and was originally positioned in Piazza della Signoria. Amazing to see also the unfinished marble works that are also on display. David was moved indoors due to damage by weather and people - one guy in 1800's took to David's feet with a hammer. There are replicas in different places around Florence. There was a coloured copy of David in an outside courtyard done by a German artist. I can't understand why they would allow this to be on display near the real one as it is horrible. Couldn't resist getting my photo taken with it though.
We then had a walking tour through Florence and visited a leather factory and a gold shop for demonstrations. Let's just say the silver jewellery was too expensive for me! I loved just walking around touching all the leather as it is so soft (most of it is from lambs and you'd goats - not sure if I like it now).
Two hours free time shopping was great. Had lunch at a gorgeous cafe. Caprese is one of my favs now as a starter and I have discovered a new type of pasta that I love. I'm hoping I will be able to find it when I get home.
