Visited a gorgeous township outside of Florence today. It is high up in the hills and different to anywhere else we have visited. It is a small walled medieval town on the hills between Florence and Siena. It is famous for the white wine produced in this area. The architecture is beautiful and a mixture of both Romanesque and Gothic.
It is home to a famous gelateria that has won worlds best for four years running. They make gourmet gelato and I tried the champagne and guava one which was different. They also do flavours with cheese, saffron and other spices. The shops there are also unique. I bought one of the wooden tools I need for my pasta making.
There were many gorgeous cookie shops. One had a scary Italian mama that you didn't cross. I told her the peccolini (marzipan covered with pine nuts I think) was delisioso and she was happy then.
I have learnt that in order to go to a decent toilet over here you need to buy a coffee or cookie and use the toilet there. They have no idea about public bathrooms here and you usually have to pay for them 50c- €1.50 and most of them don't have toilet paper.
