After checking out of our hotel we meet Charleson and Jude for our half day trek. Deb's hiking shoes that she has been nursing through India, had glued by a street shoe-shiner in Jaisalmer, finally died just before we were about to climb. Luckily Bob had a spare pair that fitted her as the climb up Chokramudi was a lot steeper than we anticipated with some sheer rock walls we had to scramble up. It didn't take long to get the heart rate going, but boy was it worth the climb. Beautiful views of the tea plantations below and the winding road to Munnar. We were so high the clouds kept blowing in and away so the landscape was forever changing. We sat on a the cliff face and ate our packed lunch with one of the best views about. Then it was back on the road to Thekkady. The tea plantations gave way to the cardamom fields. Every now and then we noticed a tree house and Mr Anthony tells us these are used as lookouts of a night as the elephants like to come and feed on the cardamom. After reaching Kumily and settling into the Elephant Court hotel, which is very nice, we head into town for a Ayurvedic massage. 800R for a 60min massage and steam bath..pretty good. We all looked a little disheveled afterwards as they pour oil into your hair before massaging your head and then finish with placing some red powder on the top of your head. So we looked most charming dining back at the hotel with our greasy hair.
