We are picked up by Mr Anthony at 9.30am and drive to Munnar. Although it's only about 150/160 km it takes us about 5hrs as we are climbing into the mountains and it is slow going with winding narrow roads. There is also a taxi drivers strike and we are waved over by unionists on the road a couple of times and have to wait 10minutes before we can continue our journey. Our accommodation at Munnar is Club Mahindra which is quite a large holiday resort targeted at families. Walking into the foyer we are met by a statue dressed and decorated as one of the Kathakali performers we saw last night as well as colored rice on the floor in a beautiful flower shape with the words Happy Diwali. We have a late lunch and then just have a wander around the resort. We stop and talk with a family who are visiting from Mumbai. There are not many foreign tourists, mainly Indians from other parts taking a Diwali holiday break here. Beautiful scenery with hill after hill of manicured tea trees making the hillsides a patchwork of green.
