We were up early again this morning as we had to be at the car park by 8am. It was cold again last night, but Will managed to keep his blankets on this time! We met the others at the car park, and not long after were on our way to a car museum. Neil was very excited as he had been told the museum was full of GT’s. We headed out west and were heading up the mountains. We arrived at Bailup Farm just after 9am. The owner, Tony, gave us a brief run down and we were left to our own devices to look around. He had 2 big sheds full of cars, the first shed houses cars ranging from a 1948 Ford Pilot and a Model T to Mustangs and Thunderbirds. The second shed was pretty much full off GT’s. Neil had taken off on his own to look through the shed and had a worker lift the bonnet on an XT to compare it to ours. William wasn’t very well behaved – he kept running and touching the cars. After a few stern words from Kelley, he was back outside running around. Neil was very impressed with the collection. Every cent the owner made from the admission price, drinks and merchandise all went to the Princess Margaret Hospital. He made no profit at all. There was one last shed which was an old shearing shed and it was full of all old bits and pieces, ranging from car parts to candlestick holders. Neil got to walk though, but William didn’t want to be carried (as the owner requested), so him and Kelley sat outside. Again. He was very tired after the big day yesterday and late night and early morning.
We left just after 11.30am and headed to Whiteman Park for lunch. William and Kelley slept most of the way, William even slept though lunch! Whiteman’s Park is amazing – we’ve never seen anything like it before. We are unsure of the land size; however it takes up a whole page in the Perth street directory. In the middle of the park, there are quite a few park benches and grassy areas, as well as a Tractor Museum, Car Museum, working tramline, cafe, kid’s playground, a small kid’s water play area and apparently many shops. We parked the cars at a reserved area and had some lunch. William woke up not long later in a much better mood, and was quickly playing with the other kids. As today is the last day of the rally, the WA club handed over to the NSW club, who will be holding the next rally in 2015, possibly in Bathurst. We agreed that we should probably have our own R or S Series by then. We said our goodbyes and headed back to the Caravan Park around 4pm. The boys needed to replace Steven’s alternator, as the repair job the other day didn’t quite fix the problem. The president of the WA club, Jim, had one at his house that he offered to Steven. The boys went off to fix that late in the afternoon. The kids were all exhausted from yet another big day and were in bed early also. It’s not so cold tonight, but there have been a few showers and it’s a bit breezy. Tonight is our last night in Perth, and we are heading off tomorrow morning. We have to be out of here by 10am and are heading towards Kalgoorlie. Not sure if we’ll make it that far though.
