William fell out of bed in the middle of last night. We heard him crying and when Neil shone the torch down to him, he couldn’t find him. He traced the crying to under his bed, he had fallen in between the bed and the wall. Neil had to move everything from under the bed to get him out and found his little face. He then came into bed with us, but kept kicking Kelley in the face so she got into his bed. Very comfy!
We were up early again and took a while to pack up due to the friendly neighbours stopping in for a chat, they were from Redbank Plains. We were finally on the road at about 10am and heading to Albany. We decided to go this way due to Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk at Walpole, which is past Albany. Our first major town we stopped for fuel was at Ravensthorpe and lunch, however on the way Steven had copped a few stray rocks from a Road Train coming in the other direction – managed to put 3 stars in the windscreen and broke one headlight. In the park in Ravensthorpe Will had a ball climbing on top of an massive old fly wheel and crank shaft that used to power the Elverdton Copper Mine and the town site of Ravensthorpe –the fly wheel stood 3m tall and weighed 8 tonne and the crank shaft weighed 4 tonne.
We then proceeded to Albany, again passing through many small towns. It is a very big town; we passed a lot of big stores like BCF and Harvey Norman. It’s probably the biggest town we’ve stayed in so far; our exploring book tells us it was the first city settled in Western Australia. We then proceeded to the Albany Tourist Park; while Kelley was in paying, William had fun playing with the alpacas (or llamas – we can’t tell). It is pretty cold here as it has been raining on and off. We’ve put the heater on in the tent for the first time so hopefully we all get a goodnight sleep.
The funny story of the day was the mouse in Steven & Tamara’s car. They were driving along and it crawled up Tamara’s leg after some kicking and swearing it disappeared under the dash. At the next stop we gave Steven a rat sak sachet to put in his car. Along the road to the next town the mouse came out again and this time up Stevens leg.
We are heading towards Maypole tomorrow for the tree walk and will see how far past that we make it for the night. We should arrive in Perth on Thursday now.
