We were up with the sun again this morning, but it gets very confusing with daylight savings. The sun doesn’t go down until 8ish and isn’t up until 7ish. After brekkie we were ready to hit the road and were driving out by 8.30am. Our first stop was to be Cockburn where we had to get rid of all our fruit and vegies, except our carrots oddly enough. We drove through many small towns and had a very uneventful trip. We drove through Peterborough while William was asleep but wish he were awake to see all the trains.
Our last fuel stop of the day was at Wilmington. William was over the car by this stage, but with only 45 minutes until Port Augusta, we had to keep going. It was here that we met the highlight of the day – Bonnie & Clyde, 2 little lambs, who were the pets of the owner of the servo. We got William out to have a pat and this brightened him up a lot. They were very cute sheep, and acted just like dogs.
Coming down through the Flinders Ranges, we caught our first glimpse of the Great Australian Bight. Port Augusta is in a bay, and the first thing you can see is a huge power station on the waters edge. Driving through the town you can tell it is a big fishing town. We settled into the Big 4 Caravan Park (the first one we pulled into wasn’t suitable for us, or anyone to stay at). Once the kids were in bed, the girls all went into town for supplies. Pulling into what they call ‘The Foreshore’, the smell of fish is overwhelming. It’s a nice area, but not sure if you’d get used to the smell.
Overall we had a good day with no major problems. Bit boring compared to the last few days!
