We were awoken throughout the night to some nice heavy rain. Glad to say we didn’t have any leaks, but the roof was nice and full of water just above Kelley – lucky it held. We were up again at 7.30am and after brekkie we were on the road by 9am. We had to go via Whyalla today, to get new bearings for Steven’s car. It was only an extra couple hours all up out of the way, but was nice to see a town we wouldn’t have normally seen. From what we could see from the outskirts, it was very industrial and rail based. A lot of big factories, but not sure what they made. Once again the boys made friends with the local mechanic who helped us get back on the road.
We drove through and had lunch at Kimba, which not long after – during a tantrum – William threw his new Thomas the Tank Engine toy clean out window. Guess he won’t be getting that one back!
We had a lot of km’s to do today, but it is so much easier when we were having such a great run. We pulled into Ceduna at about 6.15pm and headed to the Shelly Beach Caravan Park, on the recommendation from a lady we met in Port Augusta. It’s a nice park, very busy. Jean & David and Steven & Tamara are sharing a site, but there is plenty of room. After we had set up we walked over the sand dune and all in front of us was ocean. William was very excited, as he wanted to see some sharks – I’m sure if he swam out far enough he would find some. We all put our feet in but it was a bit cold. The wind was blowing as well which made it even colder.
As it was such a late arrival we had a late dinner and not much of a chat with the Barnes’. Neil cooked dinner for the first time tonight in Kelley’s kitchen, and he did a pretty good job. We have a few big days ahead of us as we hit the Nullarbor stretch. I think between here and Norseman is about 1200kms. We are hoping to get to Eucla tomorrow night.
