Hey guys! This week went by a bit fast. I think with work and school it just flew by. On Sunday we ended up going to the ballet. It was La Bella. A contemporary rendition of sleeping beauty. A little to contemporary for me, but i like The classic story. :) I am just glad we got to go and enjoy it. It was quite funny, because we have to buy tickets like 1 to 2 hours before the show starts and you have to be there with your ID to purchase your own ticket. This is if you are under 30. As you know, Brian went surfing to san Sebastian, his bus was suppose to arrive around 5:30, and then he was to rush over to the ticket line and meet me. Well I waited in line twice before finally just asking the ticket vender if I can please buy two. He said no, but he also said do not worry. It wont sell out. Thankfully he was right. Brian finally showed up at around 6:45 and we went back in line and purchased our tickets. But the funny thing was he walks up to the opera theater with his surf board in hand. Everyone was looking at him, and probably thinking "??? WTH??"
But we got our tickets, went back to the apartment, let Brian get ready and made it to the show on time. The next few days we just went to school, grocery shopping (this is on Monday's because on Sunday they close), and just hang out and cook dinner. During the week I took Brian to parque retiro, so we can go jog and he liked it. I was glad because he kept trying to find a jogging place the week before and it isn't as easy as we thought. The streets are just far to busy, the park to our left is not very safe at night from what we here, and it is by a water sewer so I guess it stinks. Retiro is the central park of Madrid. Of course, like I said before, golden gate and central park beat it in size and beauty, but it is quant and beautiful. So, as we ran we noticed that the lake had a 6 man row team. Not canoe rowing like we did in HS, but the other rowing team? I always think of college rowing. Anywho, Brian went and asked if it was possible to join the team and all that good stuff. So come this week he will be training with them and rowing. He was excited to get a different kind of work out, it will be outside and he will get to run around the park before or after practice.
This week was also hectic at work. I have to work with 1-5 year olds, and it will take some adjusting to have a group of babies to work with. I walk into the 1-3 year olds class and they are so cute and adorable, but they cry and cry, and miss their mommies, and I don't really know how I am going to teach them English, but I guess I will manage, somehow. It is just going to take time, patience, and learning in both mine and the babies part. As for the 4-5/6 year olds, they are an age group I am more use to teaching. They don't know to much English, but they know a lot of the basics, which is a good start, and I hope it will allow me to do more activities with them. The one thing that sucks is I do not have the resources that I had at home. I didn't get to bring my books, or anything really. So I have to start from scratch. Also, the way of teaching just seems different. They seem to teach just from a certain amount of books that each student has to purchase. But, it is just the first week, and I hope I get adjusted.
As for university, it went well, and I really like my methodology professor. She taught at NYC and at other American universities, and understand how we learn. Although I have previously learned a lot of the methods she mentioned we will be learning, it is good review and will allow me to refresh my memory. Our other professor this quarter only speaks Spanish. It is quite difficult to undertand her, with the accent and the vosotros, andais... All the Spanish differences we have. But it will be a good experience as well. That made me feel a little better this week, after a rough start of feeling homesick. It goes away and comes back. But, my week definitely got better when Romy sent me her itinerary on the dates she will arrive, and my sister booked her hotel stay when they arrive!! I can't wait to see them. With Romy we are planning to go to the Canary Islands( they are closer to Africa) for our week off. I am so excited to go ride on a camel, haha ( I don't think anyone else is). Then with Sonia and Loui, we will be meeting them on our birthday in Paris. We will be spending our birthdays together and new years in the beautiful city of lights. So I am definitely looking forward to December! Brians mom and stepdad will soon be planning their trip in january. I cannot wait to see everyone!!
We are also booking our trip to Portugal at the end of October. We will be heading to Lisbon and little beach towns by it, so Brian can go surf and I can enjoy a little beach vacation. Brian will have to tell you all about his surf trip, and the surfers he met. He asked two guys to join us on the trip, so they can surf, and especially because one of them is Brazilian, and will be able to communicate a little better in portugal ( Melissa i need you to come so you can talk for us!!)
Thursday night we met up with the couple we met at school and went to la coquette. A jazz bar which was pretty chill and relaxing. They have different jazz performers every week, and it's free to get in, so it was nice to get out for a bit. Last night we were invited to our coworkers bday. Her name is Mariam. But we got to meet people and mingle, and learn a little more about what to do and where to go. Today (Sunday) we walked and walked to find a lake that is in one of the parks and I am exhausted. The lake was not worth my pain, haha. But I got a little work out I guess. Anywho, here's to a new week. <3 Nat
