Today we left Huntington Beach and whilst waiting to check in to our new room in Anaheim we decided to go for a drive up the coast.
We arrived in Santa Monica which has a pier that has a fun park on it with a ferris wheel, small roller coaster and souvenir shops. The most interesting thing is that here is where the Route 66 drive across the country starts or finishes. Route 66 has Santa Monica at one end and Chicago at the other. This drive is very famous and songs have even been written about it.
The weather was not on our side though because it was cold and the wind was blowing a gale. It was blowing so hard that my face was sand blasted and my hair ended up with so much sand in it that you wold of thought I had been dumped in the surf. The weather was worth braving though for the views of the Santa Monica pier.
Then we had an easy drive turned into a 2.5 hour oddessy due to huge amounts of Friday afternoon traffic on the freeways. The GPS led us through many different routes trying to miss the huge traffic hold ups. We still got stuck in some traffic still - I guess a GPS doesn't always have the answers.
We ended the day with a show at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Which is a building built to have perfect acoustics and beautiful architecture. It was amazing to hear a full orchestra and singers who cold be heard as clear as a bell without a microphone.
