Gidday Mates
Saturday was another overcast day and as planned we took the ferry over to Iluka. Iluka is a quiet but beautiful area right across the river from Yamba. We walked along a path past the caravan park, municipal beach, marina and hung out on their ocean side beach, which we shared with just a half dozen people.
Today was back to full sun and heat, so we definitely took advantage of it. In the morning we went to the park where once a month there is a market day. These for the most part are similar to Canadian markets. Well except they sell local bananas, mangos and melons along with a full assortment of billabong clothing and everything else you can think of.
We afterwards had our morning coffee at the youth hostel and checked our email.
After lunch in (we have been good eating only one supper out every 3 days out, every thing else is home cooked) we hit the beach for some major boogy boarding ( 3 hours straight). Well Nat sort of frolicked in the water while I boarded. She also managed to visit the headland.
Even with all the sun block I still managed a sunburn on my neck and head. I am not sure how the locals do it, as there is just so much sun. I can understand why over 1 in 3 have skin cancer here.
For those who are interested in costs, we are averaging approximately 190 per day. This sounds crazy for such a frugal pair but the fixed costs are killers i.e. Flights 3600, car 826, accommodation 850. I may say that even for these fixed costs, many hours of research were done to ensure we got the best deal. Europe by contrast is much cheaper, especially Spain. The car was a necessary evil as moving around in this country is really difficult without your own wheels. That adds 26 dollars a day for the month we rented it, which is relatively inexpensive as cars go but nevertheless a discretionary cost. We could have used busses but would have missed out on many sights, lost timing flexibility, and would have had to travel much lighter for just a small gain in average travel cost.
That is it for now.

Elias Here in Texas I get a sunburn just loading my gear onto the truck before windsurfing. I now have a giant hat for when I go outside. 190/2 = 95/day that's what it costs me to stay at home so you're getting a great deal!
Sylvie Here in Ottawa, I get a freezer burn just starting my car in the morning .. oh and or walking to work from my great parking spot! Tks again Marc, gets rid of the cobwebs before turning on my computer .. lol ... aint life grand! Pat gave me your blog coordinates ... ooops! ;)
