Monday Nat and I visited Byron bay. We can definitely can see why this is such a popular place, beach, cafes, lighthouse, and a ton of people watching. It would appear that everyone is between 18 and 25, and all buff and shapely. We spent most of our time on the beach and perusing the shops.
In appreciation of our wonderful stay with Duncan and family, we invited them to supper out. Duncan brought us to the Ramada which is on the river. We enjoyed another fine night of food drink and great conversation. Owen also showed up later which was great.
Tuesday morning we finally left Alstonville and made our final goodbye to Duncan and Owen. It was a bit sad as we have all become good friends. We have committed to staying in touch.
Tuesday we headed back to Byron bay and took in the famous lighthouse and saw a dozen or more dolphins, quite a magical moment even at a half kilometer away. We then stopped in Bangalow for lunch. Bangalow is a very cute yet small community, a great stop.
We then headed an hour out to see Nimbin, a more out of this world village which prides itself on being really out there and under the influence of marijuana. One of the few places where you can smoke up and not be arrested (well-not likely be arrested).
After Nimbin, we finally arrived in Yamba around 6pm, picked our key to the 'Twin Dolphin 2' or as we called it the 'Dodgy Dolphin'. I think at $325 a week it is the cheapest accommodation in Yamba. What it lacks in creature comforts, it makes up in views and location. Hey it's better than camping! Right across the street there is a path down to Main beach!
We ate out at Sassafras since it was just around the corner and we had a coupon from the real estate company.
Wednesday we took it easy, did some grocery shopping, bought some Internet time etc.. I managed a one hour sightseeing run. Yamba is really a beautiful place, it's obvious why it was voted best small town in Australia a few years back. We later walked to Turners beach, where I boogy boarded for almost 2 hours. While surfing, I was met by a few dolphins who were busy fishing. They came within 25 feet of me, now that was really special!
That is it for today,
Marc
