Our HelpX experience has been even better than expected. For the most part we have been looking at this as a potential traveling model for the future. The work has varied from painting to shoveling and even vacuuming the pool. Nothing really difficult. Nothing that compares to laying paving stones on a hot summer day, which I did in the summer so many years ago.
Besides the free accommodations and food, the biggest advantage is the connections you make with the host family. Duncan along with his 2 sons Peter and Owen have been awesome, they are the most interesting and friendly people. They have accepted us into their family and we feel very welcomed. I think the most important aspect of a successful HelpX is researching your host. We already had so many things in common before we even started.
We will likely be sleeping on the sailboat this Friday, today we visited Duncans mom and dad and had supper with them along with Owen and Peter. Tomorrow we will be painting for Andrew and Odele's (friends of Duncans) out in the country.
Today while running through the woods, I scared a wallaby, it was very fast and was able to scurry through the woods remarkably with agility. I still have my eyes out for a koala or a wombat.
Btw weather continues to be very hot and sunny. I still have a dreaded cold.
