Today we went on a tour to see the caves in phong nha. First we went up in to the mountains and saw a temple which was created in honour of those who died creating the ho chi min trail, their average age was 20.
Then we went to paradise cave, which was absolutely beautiful. All the limestone in the caves looks like it can't have been made by nature alone, someone must have carved them intricately. The walk up was a steep one, but I was rather impressed with the fitness I did not think I had. After paradise cave we had lunch, the Vietnamese laughed in my face that I could not eat rice... Not my fault I'm intolerant :(. Lunch was nice, but I really am bored of Vietnamese food already, just not my type of thing I guess, but hey hoe, when in Rome, or vietnam I guess. It's just quite bland here and I don't like the grease and oil and I have no idea how to make the flavours with the sauces etc they give you, that's what I pay a chef for.
After lunch and paradise cave we went to the dark cave, I had the most amazing experience so far (apart from castaway) we zip lined over the river and then went in to the cave, it was pitch black and all we had were head torches, after exploring for a bit we made our way down to the mud baths. Mud everywhere, no joke. We went into the baths and from head to toe, including our faces and hair, were covered in mud, it looked like chocolate but obviously it wasn't. It genuinely felt amazing haha, then we were all told to turn off our head torches and sit in the dark, but the annoying children that were also on the tour kept making fart sounds and it was really f***ing annoying. After being in the mud we swam through the cave, despite being in a dark cave the water was surprisingly ok, not warm, but not freezing. Then to kayak, Emma and I kayaked down the river together and eventually we came to a bank where another zip wire was. This zip wire dropped in to the water though, Ellie bless her slipped and only made it about a foot before dropping in.
After frolicking in the water we had a cold beer, got changed and went back to our hostel, easy tiger. Me, dario and Emma then went out for dinner at a local place opposite before having an early night, ready for our 4am bus.
