Today is the day I risk my life. I sat on the back of Josh's motorbike for a 120 mile long trip, after knowing him for approximately 12 hours, 5 of which I was drunk, and the rest I was asleep from not being able to handle my alcohol. Fabulous.
Our crew consists of: katrina, Hayley, Emma, Dario, sam, Bill and Ben, tessi and josh.
For the first hour my nails dug in to his shoulder, then I got used to it and it was amazing. The journey at first was relatively chilled, going along quiet roads, however eventually we were on the highway. This was not enjoyable due to the fact dirt hits you in the face, butterflies got trapped in my hair and a fly splattered on my front tooth the same way it would a windscreen on a car. Yum.
We missed all the viewpoint stops so just carried on until we found this incredible beach resort and had some lunch. This was just after Hayley's helmet flew off her head whilst she was driving, obviously they are very safety conscious here in Vietnam... So she bought one from this lady who's house we stopped outside of. After lunch we got on the road again, it was time for the hoi can pass. Ridiculously winding roads up in the mountains, the view was ridiculous. Everyone was merry and having a great time until some p****girl tried to overtake Dario and Emma on a corner and clipped the back of their bike. The girl went flying into a ditch and Emma and Dario were lying in the middle of the road with cuts and grazes. Thankfully no one was hurt but it made the whole group slow down for the rest of the pass. It didn't help as well that whilst we were sorting everyone out at the side of the road a cloud came (that is how high up we were) and it was dark, cold and damp.
People became a lot happier and more confident once we were down the other side of the mountain (this is after we had found somewhere to refuel as we were all low).
Once we got to the next town/city, it was madness, all 8 of our bikes riding around in rush hour. Bikes were everywhere. In Vietnam everyone just goes and beeps their horn, rather petrifying at a roundabout when people are going the wrong way round beeping their horn just so you know where they are. Whilst driving through the town it got dark, and the last leg of our journey was on quiet roads, so quiet that we did not realise we had lost katrina... Unfortunately she had in out of petrol and was just sitting with a Vietnamese family when the boys went back to get her.
When we finally made it to the bike drop off we sat down and had a beer to chill.
We got to our hostel for the night and they did not have enough beds, so Emma and I had to share and have a spoon, no trouble though as the beds are quite large here at the sunflower hotel.
That evening we went out for a few drinks to the 'why not?' Bar. Awful atmosphere. Awful people. Just not my thing at all, and I am pretty sure they were selling ethanol instead of vodka. It was grim.
Anyway so that was my day, I have not written too well but in all honesty it was a long day and I am very very tired.
