Cooking class day. We got up at 7am for our cooking class, everyone in my dorm was asleep so it was a little difficult to get ready, but I made it in time for the free breakfast, which is all that matters.
The trip started with a walk around the food markets, where we got all the food we would be cooking with later, the women in the meat market were nuts, literally just hacking away at these huge animals. Once we had purchased our food we went on a 40 minute boat ride, we were all tired and the rocking of the boat made me fall asleep like a baby. Once the boat got too big to get through to where we were going we changed boats, the next boat was a little one and I am pretty sure there was a hole in it and it was slowly sinking, but we made it to dry land in our Vietnamese hats.
We then got to the cooking school.
We cooked such lovely food, although as a lot of it was rice based I am suffering a little now, but I tried to keep it to the minimum. First off we made spring rolls, then a beef salad, a Vietnamese pancake, and ten we had the broth which we cooked for 2 hours. I wasn't sure if it would be my cup of tea at first, but I am really glad I did it, we got the recipes so I will definitely have a go at making it once I am home as well.
Once we got back to the hostel we went to pick up our garms, I am literally obsessed with mine, they were perfect. The Vietnamese woman who created them are amazing, they just saw photos and knew what I wanted better than I did. With my coord the tailor obviously loved her own work, she started cooing and doing that 'I am good!' Look on her face. Emma's dress was also so nice. Katrina and Hayley didn't really like theirs and they needed some alterations, but that's fine, they said they would do it by the evening.
That evening after we had picked up the final alterations we went for dinner, we had beer for 3000 vnd, which I think translates to about 10p, wasn't the best beer I've had, but for 10p I am not complaining. Btw I've become slightly obsessed with Vietnamese beer and have developed a beer belly in just 2 weeks. Mybaaaaaad. At the end of our meal (I went cultural and had a clug sandywag - club sandwich to you and I) we were greeted by a rat who scuttled over our feet under the table, needless to say we vacated the property rather soon afterwards.
Had a chilled night in the hotel bar, couldn't bare going back to the why not bar, it was just so so awful, so off to bed I went to read my book. That's the point of travelling on your own though, do whatever you want, when you want.
