Greetings from Vientiane! It's so different from Vietnam here in Laos, I'm actually a little bit freaked out, arriving at Vientiane bus station I could have sworn I was back in Tanzania, except I'm cold, I'm actually wearing a hoodie now, and I wore it this morning to go to the Lao National Museum and to do some shopping, it feels really wierd to need it
The bus journey here, after all the horror stories I'd heard, was really not that bad, I slept well overnight and the mountain roads we drove on through Laos were stunning. Crossing the border between Vietnam and Laos though, was a bit of a nightmare, to get the exit stamp for Vietnam, everyone except the Vietnamese had to pay a 1USD 'processing fee' which managed to make it's way to the customs official's pocket, then, once they'd stamped my passport they wouldn't give it back to me because I don't look like my picture (who does???), so I had to wait until everyone else had gone through to get my passport back, and then peg it to the Laos border to get my visa on arrival (another 1USD 'stamp fee' this time) before getting back on the bus.
Tomorrow I'll be moing onto Luang Prabang, which should be really good, I cant wait
