Traveling to Italy was such a great experience. Especially considering there are so many things here that I love - gelato, pasta, cheese, tiramisu, olive oil, handbags, shoes, the Italian accent.
Our trip to Italy was the day after Thanksgiving and lasted for about a week. In that time we first traveled to Rome for 2 days. We saw the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica, The Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, and the Trevi Fountain.
Rome is such a fast paced city. It has an urban feel like New York and London, of course with so much more history. I was constantly in awe of the historical landmarks that surrounded us dating back to way before "BC". To see places that we learned about in school up close and personal was daunting. Then, next to these historical locations were reminders of modernism - metro stations, car drivers that love to hunk their horns, shops, restaurants, and street hustlers selling knock-offs of knock-offs! We even found a cool salsa club to party at while we were there - Caruso de Oriente! As a salsera in training, I can truly saw the Italians really know how to get their salsa on!
I definitely enjoyed Rome and all of it's fast-pacedness...did I mention the gelato (check out Ornelli's), tiramisu, and pasta?
