welp. I'm back in Nairobi...and man was it tricky to get back here. oh my god. this morning was certainly an "only in kenya" kind of day.
So. we caught the night bus without a hitch. We were able to catch a couple of hours sleep before the roads disappeared and things got bumpy. By 4am I was awake, but the bus was supposed to get in at 6:30 so it wasn't that bad. The excitement of seeing my family made it bearable...and then it started raining. When rain hits dirt roads...things get messy. by 6:30 we were stuck in the hugest traffic jam i have ever seen. back to back cars/buses/matatus. the rain just kept coming down. After two hours of sitting we finally realized that the bus was not going to be moving anytime soon (the bus in front of us had been there since yesterday) and the mud was only going to get worse...so...when in kenya do as the kenyans do. We got off the bus, rolled up our pants, got all our luggage (my huge duffle and backpack) and started walking. in the rain. in the mud. in search of the nearest road to nairobi that was paved. 30 mintues of walking and we were drenched and cold (nairobi is freaking cold now!) and had no clue what we were going to do. We saw a police man and harassed him until he helped us. Honestly, I think we probably looked so pitiful covered in mud that we guilted him into it. Within minutes we were on a police bus driving out of the traffic jam and into Jomo Kenyatta airport where they prepared a taxi for us to be driven back to our respective homes.
in the end...we all made it home safely. I spent the morning cuddling with Chumba in bed then headed to the office (wehre i am now) to start getting work done....
sooo. time to get work done.
