ok...I definitly have a case of the mondays....my energy level is just totally low today...that could be in part because of the excessive amount of champagne I drank yesterday poolside or the fact that I got up at the buttcrack of dawn for work this morning...
So yesterday= awesome. Mollie has a (host) family member who runs the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa (look it up, it will change your life) who invited us for a day of relaxation. We were more than happy to take them up on the offer, so when yesterday presented itself as free, we took full advantage. First we enjoyed a gourmet buffet lunch. It even had desserts. theeeen after gaining a food baby (seriously, I probably gained 5 pounds from lunch yesterday) we hung out in on of the resorts 5 billion pools. We strategically chose the one with the bar attached to the pool which was cluuutch. We ended up talking with some very rich (and waaasted) south africans who were there on business. They ended up serving us lots of expensive champagne (I still kinda missed drinking andre though) and inviting us to a lobster dinner (we decided it was best if we declined dinner). I hung out with this lebanese guy most of the afternoon (trying to avoid the drunken south africans) who had done alot of travelling around africa. It was interesting to hear his take on the continent through his first class hotel view. Everyone we met was so impressed with what we were doing in Kenya. A couple people offered up their hotel rooms if we wanted to take hot showers. haha. We declined...but the offer was nice. Needless to say, it was a nice relaxing day but coming back to work today was a struggle.
It was a typical Monday at the clinic. Waaayyyy too many women to see, not enough nurses or doctors. I finally got some pictures of the clinic so I will try to put them up soon. I saw blood for the first time at the clinic today...and it was enough to make me not want to be a nurse anymore (was I really debating it anyways?). I didn't even touch it, but it freaked me out. I instantly threw the antibacterial hand stuff on. Everyone else in the clinic gave me a hard time...but watever, I'm not risking it. Today for some reason there were goats roaming around the clinic. I'm not really sure why...it doesn't seem very sanitary, but it was really funny to watch. I'm not sure what prompted it today, but everyone in the office (nurse, doctor, volunteers) try to "save" me. No matter what I said, they just wouldn't give up. I finally just had to be like..."look, I'm jewish." that didn't really work either, but they kinda moved on. I'm pretty sure they will be on my case about it until I am done with work on Wednesday, but whatever, nothing I can do about it, they aren't going to change my opinion on religion anytime soon.
mmmk off to do some research.
