Transfer out to False Bay today was an overwhelmingly positive experience. There was a group of roughly 40 kids (aged roughly 8-12) from a black township at the project when we arrived and the volunteers were greeted with a riot of dancing and singing kids which left them totally overwhelmed and bowled over, particularly in the context of their fairly sheltered/glitzy orientation in Cape Town to date (i think Sam was about to faint!).Project orientation has been postponed until Monday, and the volunteers are no longer getting Sunday off this week since they will be spending the entire weekend as trainee rangers, responsible for the kids that are there until Sunday evening! When I left, they were heading out on their first 'night walk', only an hour after arriving at the project. All in all, they all loved it - were utterly impressed and awe-struck by the sudden infusion of black township culture and couldn't stop thanking me for giving them this opportunity. Lovely to be a part of.
