The volunteers did their first day of 'proper work' (after the departure of the 'camp' of kids that were there over the weekend on Sunday) yesterday and were working alongside local staff from a black township (as well as the standard False Bay rangers).The locals 'showed them the ropes', they all broke for lunch together (with the exception of a couple of the vols who wouldn't stop working - to the locals' great amusement!) and interacted as well as they could - bearing in mind the communication difficulties... brought about by the fact that the workers' first language is Xhosa. Really good to see!
