Hey guys,
So I forgot to add something yesterday and I think that every point is needed to take in the ...... of Bangkok.(insert your own word when you figure this all out)
So there are a few things to add especially about what i saw last night...so Tim and Simon (who I met yesterday) took the train from the airport to the train station right by my new hotel and it took them 30miniutes whereas i took my hotel taxi and met bangkok... 2 and a half hours later after being in traffic of beeping horns and mopeds, my new favourite friend the tuktuk and huge lorries that swerve round small thai ladies clutching chickens and fruit...i arried to my hotel. Lush big bed and my own wet room is amazing, but aside from that............................................................................................................................................. Okay people so I thought that Bangkok had a reputation but OH MY. I had offers for pingpong....and you guys know what sort I mean, for naked dances and the likes... the sound of street hawkers popping or pursing their lips to make that well reknowed sound, echos throughout Khoa San road from 6pm until the early early hours of the morning. OH MY.
A few chuckles were had between the three of us as we sat over dinner and a beer. (which i would just like to say cost me a grand 2Pounds last night... oh yeah baby!)
Another thing is the TukTuk Drivers. So I hear there is a shortage of rally drivers for the death road race and the Dakat. Well I can find you some, just head to Bangkok and pay hevenly for the privalige of being at the mercy of their awesome skill. Tuktuks for those that dont know are a small motorized vehicle with a seat on the back that you climb either up into or down into. Pretty mucha motorbike with a car seat on the back. I get on very well with the tuktuk style of just driving where ever the F**k you like... to a point. when a 45 tonne lorry comes roaring up the inside and indicates into your lane and the tuktuk driver just puts his middle finger up at him... yeah, that's an experience. My tuktuk last night cost me 200 Baht which works out at just under 4Pounds and a drive in the MIDDLE LANE of a motorway in a monsoon downpour doing 40mph between two lorries for 15 minutes. Yeah I slept well that evening from all the addreneline. although a long hot shower was needed to calm the nerves.
I have perfected the art of crossing the roads though. Its a case of F**k it. Just step out and they will move I swear. It's actually a pretty goo deal but not many people get it, you just have to know that as long as you have clocked them, pretty much 90% of the time, they have seen you too. and the other 10% of the time i hear you cry? Well you would be a dumbass to stand there and not move out the way of a lorry coming at you doing 50. I like it, it's a good system although traffic lights do pose a question as no one seems to obey them so all that funding the highway gets could go to other projects.
Shall we talk about today though?
So I got up at 8 after getting home about 9.30pm from the bar where a man upstairs was singing and playing his guitar along to the lines of the cheekygirls, johnny cash and one direction... i need a talent scout here, right now. This instant!
Breakfast in the newly named 'stuck up' hotel is okay with a mixture of asian and continental with baked beans the size of pingpong balls. (not to jog anyones memory into a gag reflex)then onto the hotel tuktuk which is actually just the hotel door man flagging down any old tuktuk off the street and telling him that he will pay him later and to take us customers to the grand palace. Ah yes, weeving through traffic with a drivewr who does not understand english for SLOW DOWN. My first port of call tomorrow is to the foreign office to learn thai for STOP THIS TUKTUK I'M GETTING OFF! Ah well, it;s all fun and games really. So lunch in the same restuarant as yesturday for dinner, my new favourite place to eat where the food is fantastic and the seats are so deep you have to get someone else to pull you out.
I bought some fisherman's trousers (just for Oliver T.) HA! in your face! No jokes, I didn't really but I bought something similar. And I realise now that a long sleeved BLACK tshirt is not the correct attire for Bangkok city at 38degrees. Hmm rookie mistake. So shopping is in order although it is 5.46pm right this second. Last night shopping is the done thing here when the weather has cooled off and the rains come, street markets are the business. Oh and if you ever need a suit, 15 indian men in a row will grab your wrist and tell you that your man needs an armani suit and that you can only get one from them... hmmm. Yeah, hello Bangkok I see you!
Alas unless you can not tell, I am falling in love with Bangkok, I could get used to this city and it's weird ways but that could change soon as I have ordered my Visa for Vietnam for the 6th of October (1 month long) and it will not arrive until tuesday morning 11am. So much hanging around to be done.
BUT. I must say thank you to my beautiful portugual friends Rod'm and Mariama who gave me their lonely planet guide and maps, helped me with planning parts of my trip, stayed with me through the process of cash stealing photo machines and many, many galour presents before they headed off to get their plane. I hope you get home safe and thank you for showing me the kindness that you did. You made my afternoon.
So now it has cooled off, well, i am assuming while looking out the window of the air-con internet cafe as there is a blustery wind pushing the palms down the river outside. it has been so hot today, i have not burnt though which is a blessing, it has just been a sweat contest between me and my backpack as to which contains the most sweat, me or the material on the back, ew. I think in a minute I will head to get something to eat and slowly potter half way back to the hotel before hailing a tuktuk for my thrill ride of the day the rest of the way. Twice a day is more than enough!
I hope all is good back at home. Many stories to tell when I get home as I can not spend my life on a pc especially when it costs 30baht an hour.... about 75p HA! So expensive, clearly...
On those lines, tonight's challenge is to get dinner for less than a pound, without getting thailands form of delhi belly... hmm. It's like dancing with a dragon, who will win, only time will tell!
I've decided to end each post with a status of my health and mood. Todays 'Who will win' stands at:
