Well week two of Base Camp Morzine has been a cracker. With a bit of bad weather to start off the week this did not dampen our spirits (pun not intended). I have been doing a fair bit of training and am starting to feel almost normal again sore and tired. I am loving that the pool is only 100m away from our chalet and that 4 days a week the pool doesn't open until 12 the other days it opens at 11. But this does mean that I have to do something pre swim. It has been great not having to get up until 8am most days to go for a run or ride or even some sight seeing.
Other then all the riding swimming and running we have been doing we have managed to get in some pretty amazing sight seeing. The highlight thus far has been going up Mont Blanc. You can't go all the way to the top without doing a mountain hike, but where we got to was just amazing. It was a touch over 3800m Alt. It was absolutely beautiful, down at the base it was a warm and we when we got to the top it could have been snowing it was so cold. When we first got to the top there was no seeing any more then 50m in front of you, the cloud cover was so thick, but about 20 minutes later it was as clear as anything, and every few minutes the cloud would move from the top of Mont Blanc. Magic. Snow covered mountains. Bliss. The photos I took wont ever give justice to what I saw that day. That afternoon we had a ride around Cluses over the local bike path, it was interesting, more pedestrians then bikes and a hell of a lot of crossing roads. After about 40 minutes we came back to the car and and decided to ride to the next town. After a pastry in the little town we finished at we drove back home but not without a little stop at the top of Col du Joux Plane for a swim. There was a group of older cyclist at the top who thought we were crazy, they had there phones out taking photos of us. It was a little cold but nowhere near as cold as the river out side our house.
We had a trip to Yvoire. This place is beautiful, full of well kept gardens, old villages and beautiful scenery.
Saturday saw us head to Annecy. Another cracker of a day presented its self. We did a flat ride along the bike path. The first 10km where a s*** fight with kids on bikes/scooters, people on roller blades and pedestrians (who are meant to walk on the path next to the bike path) but at about the 15km it was mostly free. it was a stinker of a day so riding along the lake was not helping my want to jump in for a dip. After our ride we had a lovely picnic in the park on the corner where we were sure we would see a kid or someone who had no idea on how the bike path worked walk in front of some hero going to fast along the path. Unfortunately what we saw was only near misses but I'm sure if we stayed for a little longer we would have seen a good stack up. The time had come to get in the lake. We got on the closest paddle boat and set out to the middle of the lake for a jump of the boat and a dip. Again this was another great spot to just sit and watch the scenery.
Well thats it for this week I'm sure I will post something again soon.
Peace out.
