This first week here in Morzine has been amazing. I have found my happy place. So I arrived here on Monday afternoon. This place so just beautiful, snow capped mountains, 1000m Altitude with some of the worlds best Up and Down hill MTB track, some of the best road bike trails with Col de Joux Plane just a short ride away. It was love at first sight when we where driving from the Geneva air port. After a little walk around town and another wonderful feed we went to bed to be ready to tackle the next 7 weeks of training.
The rest of the week didn't disappoint. Tuesday was a nice swim run day. The pool as at the bottom of Morzine. When you stop at the shallow end of the pool and look out the end window all you can see are these beautiful snow capped mountains. Wednesday was a little bit on the bad weather side. But not before we went for a rock climb at the Mont Blanc, even though the weather was not on our side still got wonderful views. After the climb we went shopping at the one and only DECATHLON.... This place is the best ever. Sporting jocks play ground.
Thursday saw a day trip to Switzerland. What a place Switzerland is. Love it. One big lake and lots of little towns, free ice cream and wonderful scenery. I went for a swim in the most beautiful pool ever. It was right on the lake in Verve. The pool was a little bit longer then 50m I think or maybe I was having a to much fun taking in the views of the snow capped mountains of the French swim border but it was a hard swim made easy by the views. After the swim I went down and had a dip in the lake. It was a little cold at first but you could get used to it very quickly. After the swim we had lunch and a free ice cream... It was wicked. We then went for a drive through the vineyards and a wine taste. The vineyards were amazing, all the way up the hills there were rows and rows of vines.
After the day in Switzerland made our way back to Morzine for yet another wonderful meal. I think its safe to say I haven't had a bad meal since leaving Australia. Sure beats the peas and corn I am good at defrosting.
Friday the weather gods decided to not be on our side so it was a lazy day in. We drove up the road to lake Montriond where we went for a walk/run. We wanted to walk up to see the waterfall, the sign said you could go up through the forest, so I got my girl scout on and lead the way. It seamed that every turn that I made we ended up at a large amount of water running down the mountain. I again got my girl scout on and climbed up to the base of this waterfall only be get sort of stuck (out of rock to walk over). So we made our way back down to the main path and went the other path to the water fall, and it was beautiful, and because of the rain it was pumping.
I picked up my bike and put it together ready for my first ride of the trip. We decided to go up to Avoriaz, it is not that far away but ALL UP HILL. It was such a beautiful ride. Got to the top passed one of the worlds most beautiful gold courses (If you play golf, at 1800m Alt.)
The decent was not as fun, I had gone up in my vest and left my gloves back home, oh man it was cold, so cold it hurt. After we warmed up we made our way to the town square to watch the Criterium du Dauphine, where we saw Cadel come second in the stage but by far the most impressive would have been watching Richie Porte climb Col de Joux Plane on the front of the pack. So good.
Sunday was again another wicked day which included another rock climb which was a 25m climb, so proud of myself. Rode around the alps again with plenty of up hills. Watched the last stage of the crit and to finish off a wicked first week in Base Camp Morzine we went to the Thermal baths in Switzerland. This place was wicked all naturally heated with ice baths and heated pools everywhere.
It has been the best week I've had, I just can't get over the views I get to see every day.
