"Sorry Miss, are you menstruating?", said the man who wrapped the sarong around my waist, as I entered the Goa Lawah temple (Bats cave temple). I'm not used to hearing this line outside of my Gyno office, so it took me by surprise... Women are not allowed into the temple if they are menstruating or pregnant. Today was an excursion day for me, with a private driver, I visited a silver jewelry village (had to buy something there, of course), followed by Batik hand factory/hand weaving (Gianyar), Candi Dasa beach, small salt farm, Nongan coffee plantation with amazing views of mount Agung. I tasted my first luwak coffee, which was pretty good. And last but not least, I visited the biggest Hindu temple in Indonesia - Besakih, which is located in the Eastern part of Bali, at the foot of Agung volcano. It's made of volcanic rock, and is quite beautiful. The views from the temple are amazing - behind is the volcano, and in front are hills and the ocean, where you can see the waves in the distance. A five-year old girl tried to sell me postcards there, speaking really good English, and already knowing how to hustle, she tried to cut me a deal...
