Today we started the W hike in Torres del Paine. It's a five day hike, which means we have to carry our gear, sleeping bags and food. We're staying at refugios for 2 nights and camping for the other two. The first day, we hiked to glacier Gray through the area that has been recently devastated by fire just a month ago. The hike was 3.5 hours, but it took us longer because of the heavy winds and extra baggage that we're carrying with us. We were very happy to reach the refuge, and pleasantly surprised by the luxury of it. It looked brand new, had a bar and a beautiful porch, and several fireplaces. I even got wine for aperitif. We were able to get hot water from the refuge, and made our dinner - instant mashed potatoes with tuna in olive oil, and asparagus soup - not bad for camping food... Tomorrow, we go backtrack and spent the night by a lake at another refuge, gain our energy for the next day, which will be the longest hiking day - about 10-12 hours, and will include the highlight of the W hike - French valley.
