On our wine tour in Mendoza we visited three places. First was boutique olive oil maker. It was a small family business, with a beautiful garden, filled with olive trees and lavender bushes. We really enjoyed the tour of the facility, and learned a lot about olive oil production. At the end of the tour, they offered us tastings of various olive oils with breads and spreads and sun dried tomatoes. It was delicious. Then we headed for an organic winery, which was quite interesting. We had tastings there as well. Finally, it was lunch time, and I was very excited about the next stop which was definately the highlight of the day - Zuccardi winery. I had a nine course tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish was elegantly prepared and served. Funny enough, I found a small green caterpillar on one of the flowers in my first dish. I scooped it up and gave it to the waitress, and shortly after the chef himself came to apologize and said that that never happened before... I thoroughly enjoyed my nine courses... Each one was very different and unique. First was oak brioche, pickled rabbit steak and its foam, followed by the trout and quinoa churro with soy ice cream paired with Santa Julia Syrah Rose. Then they served fennel and dill gnocchi with trout and saffron suquet paired with Santa Julia Reserva Chardonnay. Next was one of my favorites - chestnut and mushroom soup with roasted bread foam paired with Zaccardi Serie A Syrah - perfect combination! Then it was on to meats - first, two types of meat (not sure if it was beef or something else) with different textures, very tender, with carob sauce, followed by pork loin, sauté quince and cauliflower cous cous (very original), paired with Zaccardi Q Malbec. And of course I had to have not just one, but three desserts... For starters, malamado tonic and lemon verbena sorbet, which was refreshing and palate cleansing. After that they served souffle filled with grapes - delicious! Both paired with Malamado Viognier dessert wine. And finally, as if I had any room left, the waiter brought the third dessert - tangerine with rum, rice and soy milk foam and ice cream paired with Malamado Malbec. What an unforgettable meal, which lasted almost two and a half hours. After lunch, we had a chance to visit the winery and of course have a tasting in their beautiful gallery/tasting room.
