We hiked 15 miles today to Laguna de Los Tres in Los Glaciares Nacional Park. It was quite challenging because of the drastic elevation to get to the lake. I was doing quite well up to that point, walking at a great speed, but fell behind Jn by 5 minutes climbing to the lake. We spend about two hours enjoying the view of the Fitz-Roy and the surrounding peaks, the beautiful glaciers and the crystal blue lake. After the hike, we decided to reward ourselves with some dessert, so we stopped at a very charming cafe, and shared a chocolate cake with orange peel served with el calafate berry liqueur, both were fantastic! Jn decided to try mate, very typical Argentinian/Uruguayan drink. He really felt like a local sipping his mate, and even got advice on how to make it from an argentinian man overhearing the waitress giving Jn instructions. They take mate here very seriously, and everyone has their own special recipe. Overall, a great day for us here in El Chalten. We even cooked chorizo for dinner back at the hostel, which we bought at the local butcher shop.
