Sunday I started my morning with Mission Xavier del Bac located on an Indian reservation. The mission is over 300 years old and is still an active parish. I got there in time for mass. Early dinner with friends at Poco and Mom's followed by a stop at the brewery Ten Fifty-Five. I do not drink a lot of beer but I did like the ale and would have had more but I was driving. Highly recommend. The best part though is seeing old friends, catching up, and feeling for a bit like the distance and time that passed melts away,

The train glides on the rails with the periodic low whisltle at each crossing. I thought of my friend Kate as we passed through the famaliar cities which seem unfamiliar from the train. The first leg of my trip I met a young man, probably twenties, from Alaska. He helped me with my luggage. I asked him where he was from and he told me he worked in engineering but was not quite an engineer. He told me his mom was a distinguished crab fisherman on the Bering Sea and that she was 48 when he was born. He was very animated and talked off and on seemed to really enjoy describing his life and clearly loved his mom and sister. He described t...
