Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
We decided to escape the city and see some Dutch countryside. We took the local bus to an area north of Amsterdam called Waterland. It is full of small towns and farms. The bus ticket allowed us to get on and off all we wanted. The 1st stop was the town of Broek, which is like Amsterdam in miniature with wooden houses on canals. Our next stop was Marken which is an old fishing village. From there we took a 30 minute ferry ride to Volendam which is a busy local tourist town. We walked around town and then stopped for a delicious fish and chips meal (and a beer). We used our bus ticket to catch a bus back to Amsterdam. We thought with using the buses and ferry we would not walk as much - wrong. We still got in 12 miles.
