Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
We arrived in Amsterdam early in the morning. We had breakfast with our new friends Craig and Carole and said our goodbyes. We got off the ship, did some walking around Amsterdam, then came back to the ship for lunch. They even said we could stay for dinner if we wanted since they do not leave until 11:30PM (we declined). The overall experience on Viking was the best we have had on any cruise. We caught a cab to the hotel. It is nice but the room is VERY small. The 1st room they gave us was even smaller. They were very nice and let us choose another room. They are all small but this one is livable. It is in an active neighborhood with lots of restaurants and nightlife. It was a beautiful sunny day and we wanted to take a canal cruise while the weather was good. Amsterdam has more than 200 days of rain a year and it is supposed to be cloudy/rainy the next couple of days. The canal cruise was fun and the city is beautiful. There are houseboats along the canals where people live year round. Some look luxurious and some not so much. We decided we were tired and had enough large meals (for a while). We went to a market, bought some bread, cheese and wine and went back to the hotel for a very relaxed and cozy dinner.
