The following morning we only had a two hour drive into Tanunda which is where we were going to stay as a base for Barossa Valley. When we got to the campsite we decided it was too expensive and found out that we could stay about 5km in Nuriootpa for a lot less. Everything needed sorting out once arriving.. we needed showers, laptop, phone and camera all needed charging, plus a load of washing. Getting used to this hand washing clothes.. who needs washing machines??
After we'd finished doing everything it was about 1pm and a scorching hot day so we decided to make our way out into Barossa Valley. Hitting the scenic roads, seeing all the grape vines in the fields we made our way to mengler hill lookout. The views were amazing but got there just at the wrong time.. as a coach load pulled up at the same time as us. Kinda hard getting photos when theres loads of people stood in the way.
Time was pushing on so we thought we had better go and get some wine tasting done. Barossa Valley is home to the famous Jacobs Creek. This was our first place to visit. We tried lots of different sorts such as riesling, moscato, chardonnay and many other whites. We did try a couple of reds but yet again didn't find one we liked enought to buy. We bought a moscato which was quite cheap. Jacobs Creek sell wine all around the world but the only ones we liked could only be bought at the cellar door. Typical!! When nipping to the toilet we noticed a breathaliser machine, so we decided to check if we were still ok to drive.. even though we knew we hadn't had that much. It was just funny blowing into the straws.
The next winery we tried was called St Hallett's, a pretty little place. Where we found a great wine.. a blend between semillon n sauvignon blanc called Poachers Blend.. again is wasn't the most expensive wine in the world but we liked it.
Peter Lehmann was our last but not least cellar door we gave a visit, this place was amazing. It had massive gardens with picnic benches for people to enjoy a bottle of their finest.. if they weren't driving of course. We ended up buying a relatively cheap bottle of sauvignon blanc from here, we really wanted to drink it in the grounds but unfortunately our camp site was abit of a drive away.
That evening we enjoyed the poachers blend bottle of wine with our tea. Before going to bed we also went over to the oval aussie rules pitch next to the camp site, where we watched a kids game.... didn't really understand what was happening to be honest!!
