Perfect day!
Mostly sunny and high of 75, we started heading west to Gulf Islands national Seashore.
Florida border is only 13 miles east of us. The national Seashore has many different spots, so we started with a quick stop at Perdido Key, and got directions to the main areas of the park.
We continued to the Blue Angels naval base, where we visited a nice Lighthouse, and drove through the base to the national seashore headquarters, southwest of Peniscola. On the way we drove on a very long bridge over the ocean, right on hwy 98, where Patti spotted Dolphins in the ocean right from the hwy.
At the visitor center we walked through the nature trails and saw a nice Live Oaks Plantation, trees that were used to build ships. The trails were just by the ocean, and the trees, the green bushes and the blue ocean all mixed so nice to a wonderful yet not too long experience.
We headed to the last part of the preserve, and drove to Santa Rosa dunes, again through a long road above the ocean. The road to the fort were closed because of the hurricane, and that worked to our advantage. We rode our bikes from the road closure all the way to the Fort, and Patti was very excited to test-drive her new bike.
The weather was perfect and the sea was cold and refreshing, and this last trip ended with a perfect sunset into the ocean. Amazing!
