We had a long weekend in front of us - Thanksgiving W/E, and we decided to explore the area in the next 4 days.
On thanksgiving day - we took our bikes to the local nature trail at Bon Secour. This time we rode all the way from Jeff Friend Trail, through the sentential trail to the Pine beach trail - all in all we rode good 3-4 hours and visited the swamp area and did not skip the beach. These are majestic views of Savannah, sandy beaches and maritime plants.
The next day - we took the Ferry to Dauphine Island. There is a very interesting Sea Lab museum on the island, and if you like history - don't miss Fort Gaine - where the battle on Mobile Bay took place, and this is the source of the famous phrase "Damn the torpedoes - Full steam ahead!"
Not less than the island itself we enjoyed the 40 minutes ferry ride to the island from Fort Morgan - at the end of hwy 180 from Gulf Shores.
Next, on Saturday, we drove to Gulf Shore state park. This park sits between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and provides very comfortable walking and cycling trails - 4 trails of 1.75 miles each. We rode our bikes again, and enjoyed the beautiful day and the nice views of the park. The trails cross swamp area, dunes, wooded areas and some nice bridges. If you like nature - it worth the trip.
