The weather's been up and down here in Miami, but either way it's a lot warmer than elsewhere. I've been on a few adventures in the last few days. I can't sit still for too long, so I have taken myself off on various bus rides to different beaches, malls and areas.
After having fun creating my Christmas card photo http://goo.gl/2liJ8E, I caught the 120 bus North to Haulover Beach Park & Marina. I spent two hours on the ocean-side of the causeway sitting on the beach. It was beautiful. White sand and peace compared to downtown South Beach (where there's constant noise - horns, drills, bangs, music), just the sound of the ocean and enough space between you and the next person. I took a picnic which I made up in my room, making use of washed out plastic containers, broken plastic knife, etc. Surprisingly nice - romaine, chopped baby tomatoes, chilli olives, cranberries, candied pecans, babybel mozzarella and balsamic dressing. There were intermittent clouds and wind but it was lovely to feel the heat on my skin. I've decided to bring Rudolph (Rudie) out for the adventures. I've blinged him up for Christmas (with my blue Swarovski bracelet). He's seeing the different locations, posing for photos and generally being seen out and about in Miami for the Christmas season. Watch out for him on my Flickr page http://goo.gl/yzDdOz.
I then took my life in my hands and legged it across the highway to get to the Marina side of the park. I walked along the waters edge, seeing stunning scenes, watching the wildlife, boats and people. It was a perfect day for kite flying. I'd seen the large kites the other day when on the bus to Aventura Mall. So this time I was able to check it out for real.
I caught the bus back to South Beach and went out for dinner at the News Cafe. It's busy Saturday night along Ocean Drive. The lights make it look sexy and seductive, with the beautiful people out and about. One guy made me laugh looking all cool as he started up his Porsche and set the alarm off! Not so cool, but funny! I ate a veggie burger with Cajun fries and all the trimmings. I had to send my mojito back (for the second time here in Miami) as it just wasn't a mojito as I know it. I ordered a Washington Chardonnay instead. On my walk back to my hotel I stopped at the Purple Penguin Hotel for that mojito. So far it's the best in town (in my humble opinion). It was great to see Miami buzzing with happy people on a warm evening. No doubt many will have partied into the night. I know the group of people next door to me were having a party into the small hours. I guess that's the Albion for you. I'm looking forward to moving on to another area of Miami before flying home. It'll be good to have a change of scene and see a new place. After nearly two months I'm used to being on the move continuously. I've got the travel bug!
