I checked out the pool where I'm staying, sitting out for around an hour late afternoon. My skin hasn't seen much sun for many a year, so I'm being careful not to burn straight from the offset.
Tuesday evening, after the sun went behind the buildings at the pool, I decided to queue for the local bus number S at around 5.30pm. We waited an absolute age and the queue grew and grew. It was dark by the time it arrived and I fought the commuters for my place on the bus. You pay an exact fare of $2.50 and ride as far as you need. I thought each stop would be named, but no they weren't, plus it was dark outside so I couldn't even see where we were. A girl looked up my destination on her mobile. I was headed to Bal Harbour, a very high-end mall. Nothing like arriving on the local bus when everyone else is pulling up in their Ferrari! Still, that's how I flow. It was a window shopping exercise, as the only shop I could really afford anything in was the book store. The mall is like Sloan Street plus five. Channel, Marc Jacobs, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue... Two layers of designer stores. I was tempted by a cream cashmere long cardi which had a 25% discount! but it still worked out at £250, so I left it. Ho hum. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. They even had Porsches and other luxury cars bedecked in large red bows, Christmas trees made of poinsettias and beautiful garlands with sparkly lights. Kids were enjoying the large fish tank below floor level. You can see them on my Flickr page I placed my foot over the tank for reference (black & white striped) http://goo.gl/kTywz5.
I had a delicious meal at Carpaccio's, an Italian restaurant. I'm not normally able to eat the full quantity, but I ate every last morsel of my angel hair pasta, fresh tomatoes, peas, rocket and mozzarella cheese. To finish the meal I had a limoncello with loads of ice. It was a very generous serving. Almost a bottomless glass. By now it was around 10pm, so I decided to catch a cab back to South Beach. The cab driver was from Haiti. There's quite a few who hail from there here, so you do hear a fair amount of French being spoken.
Tomorrow I'm hoping the sun appears.
