We are exactly one week in so thought it best to give you another little update.
Our daily routine is fairly similar each day, and revolves mainly around wandering along the beach and generally chilling in the sun and then finishing the day with standard freezing cold shower. We have seen a few odd bits and pieces worth writting home about though!
Over the last weekend we could hear all ammount of strange wailing coming from the beach, later, when we were down there we were met by the sight of 6 or 7 men, covering themselves in sand and chanting and screaming then running into the sea to wash it off and repeating over and over again, one chap seemed to have a thing for putting sand down his swimming shorts! One beach trade which i dont think you will find in Bournemouth is the highly skilled art of ear cleaning, it involves sticking a thick metal pin in you clients ear and producing alot of wax, i nearly fell fowl of this as he grabbed me due to me dallying to much around him, i managed to get away in time though!
Em hit the nail on the head the other day when describing the difference between the people that hassle you in Delhi and the hasslers of Goa. The ones in Delhi are relentless and annoying in Goa though they are like "big issue sellers, a polite no thanks and a smile and they wish you a pleasent day" the difference is incredible. Further update on the cold front; Em seems to be recovering from the worst cold in history although there is still a cough hanging around, hopefully she will be back to her self in a day or two now. Delhi has alot to answer for. Some of you may be wondering how Em is also coping in the sun, well, i hate to dissapoint but there is no redness in sight just a nice light brown. Sorry folks! Oh and a quick mention also to her training herself to pee like the locals! Hovering! Very impressive and she thinks she is still far more accurate than the average bloke.
I had the mis fortune of wandering into the wrong tent the other afternoon, we have had a strange travelling French women move in next to us and me not really concentrating on my wander back from the beach i strolled in to her tent causing much shock to me and the French women, i apologised and made my exit very quickly!
We are also the proud owners of some indian trousers! I have purchased the coolest pair of fishermans trousers and Em has the female equivilant, whether we will pluck up the courage to wear them out! We managed to do some serious haggling, we find the trick is to name our price and just walk out, they then eventually come shouting down the road at you agreeing to the price you want. At cost the trousers came to 600 RPS, she wanted 550 RPS and we got them for 350 RPS and felt we could maybe have gone abit cheaper!
Em has hit the beer as well! She seems to have developed a liking to Kingfisher and it is now becomming our nightly routine to pop to the bar before going out and watch the sun go down with a cold Kingfisher, pretty amazing. Last night we grabbed an ice cream and wandered down the beach where a musicfestival was in full swing starring a very excitable West Indian gentleman. There is also a series of impromptu firework displays every night and one the other morning at half 7! The firwork brand of choice in Goa is the interestingly named Cock!
For all you wildlife enthusiasts out there, we have so far seen many cows, a pig and lizards in the toilet. The other evening a frog tried to jump up Ems trouser leg and walking along the beach yesterday we befriended a dog called Fred!
Well, i had better wrap it up, got to put pictures up!
Talk to you all soon.
Mike (and Em)
