Hey all...
So I just got back from Milan...was interesting to say the least. My first real suprise was how little english ppl spoke...it was a nightmare trying to be understood! To start off with, i went to get on the bus to go to my hostel, and then the buses dont sell the tickets...like huh! I had to go search the street to find a shop that sold bus tickets...weird, and then there was a lady with her dog on the bus...so couldnt do that at home!
At my hostel I had to fill in a card, i was apprehensive at first and wouldnt do it, but turns out it was an anti terrorist card incase youre illegally in Milan etc and then the cops can trace your steps, i even had to fill in one at the internet cafe, and the guy even asked for my passport! I lied and said i didnt have it, but seriously, for an internet cafe??
I had a real hard time ordering pizza the first night, i didnt know what tomatoes or mushrooms or ham etc was in italian so i had to get the guy to show me all the ingredients to see if i wanted it or not...was funny though, and he even gave me a mandarin as a souvenir of Milan lol.
I went into this supermarket there too coz often you find weird cool stuff overseas and i was amazed at how cheap this place was!! for example, these were some prices of stuff
36 cents a 2kg bag of pasta
19cents a cup of choc mousse
a 2 pack of tiramasu for 1,29
RTDs 69 cents each
box of beer 3.69
my nice as wine 1.69
choc 59 cents a king size block
a bottle of coke 59 cents... crazy huh!
I didnt really like Milan all that much actually, and it either rained or was freeeeezing the whole time, consequently i have a cold right now. I did get to see a cathedral which is the worlds 5th largest though, quite impressive, and even attend italian mass...not that i understood lol.
I went to all the designet stores too, why you would spend so much money on things i dont know. The one thing i really liked though was a brown leather jacket, cant remember what brand, but it was 899 euros!!! for one jacket!!! The shopping mall is 8 stories though, one makeup/perfumes, 2 floors mens clothes, 2 floors womens clothes, one kids, 2 handbags, and one houseware stuff and one cafes etc...ok so maybe thats more than 8...was huge anyway, not that i bought anything!! One pair of shoes i quite liked were 600 euros though!
I learnt though from in Milan how much i hate the smell of chestnuts...its everywhere!! and incense too, yuck!
On the way to Milan though we flew over the alps, so was pretty as. I tried to take photos but typically my camera battery died! I got one i'll post sometime though.
Milan is also the home to the Last Supper painting, and i thought i could just rock on up to the place it was at...was so wrong. You have to make at least a 2 day in advance reservation, and i didnt have that time, so i missed out, oh well. I got to see some of Leonardo da Vinci's stuff in this castle/museum though.
And then well i arrived back in Paris today, and off to Venice tomorrow. Trying to get a taxi ordered for 3.30am in Milan to the train station to get towards my plane was a nightmare though. I had an Italian man yell at me coz i was holding him up...he said he spoke english but then didnt understand me...not my fault! Then when i found someone who spoke english, they wouldnt let me book it at like 10.30pm but gave me a phone number to call at 3ish...i was like well thats no use coz whoever answers the phone wont speak english! luckily though this japanese dude in my hostel was so nice and he ordered it for me, he spoke italian, and he even got out of bed and came outside with me to make sure it came!! so nice!
Lol yesterday I got this italian dude who just came up to me...spoke a whole lot of nonsense, wrote his number on my hand, and said he'd finish work at 7 and take me out to dinner! i tried to explain that i wasnt gonna be back in the city until after 7, but it was no use...i didnt see him again though.
But yeah...thats the end of that chapter!
