The sunshine this week had us out all over the island. South to Poipu Beach yesterday and saw the blow hole and a perfect sunset. Finally got up to the north shore and it is as breath taking as we remember it. The other thing that is hard to describe is the smell. An earthy, primordial scent that is a mix of earth and grass and flowers. I smell it no where else in the world. As you go north from Kapa'a, your rise toward the craggy peaks, but still with the water off to your right. Then descend down into Hanalei, over a series of one lane bridges. There are waterfalls, and taro patches and always, craggy peaks in the distance. Anyone who has seen South Pacific would recognize Mt. Makena, otherwise known as the Bali Hai rock. It is magnificent in person. We made it out to the end of the road today to Ke'e beach, took out our lawn chairs from the back of the truck and just sat on the beach. Wandered back down to Kapa'a later in the day, stopping at a variety of farmer's markets and landed back at the condo around 6. Big salads for dinner out on our lanai. My wonderful Bob had done the laundry this morning and we have fresh sheets and will have good sleeping tonight. One last word about food....we have found a wonderful Indian restaurant nearby in Kapa'a. Never really had much indian food, but this is scrumptious! They have a buffet every day for lunch and we're learning about all sorts of new foods. Mmmm.
