Verona. I am beginning to call this place home. Afterall, I have a long history here. Numerous summers, and now...all this.
The other night I went to a meet and greet for Italian/English speakers. I must have walked by the bar two times before getting the courage up to go in. It was a fun night in which I made two potentially new friends. Sara and Lia. Sara is a native to Verona, and Lia is from a small town farther north in Italy. They met in a Spanish class and both lived in the UK at some point in their lives. Therefore, they understand the difficulty of moving to a new city, let alone a new country with language barriers. They are lovely and I hope to get to know them better.
Today I started class at the University of Verona. It is a level two (post beginner) Italian language class. There are people there from Russia, Spain, Poland, Holland, Germany, America, Canada (that's me), Brazil and perhaps a few others that I missed. I met a small group consisting of a girl (Linda) from Holland, another girl from America, a guy from Poland and another guy from the southern USA. I love the array of accents, experiences and ages. On our brake we wandered the streets and got a coffee in a little shop. Then after class I took a few of them to my favorite pizza spot (Bella Napoli) for a bite. I have class again tomorrow at 8:30am. That means at least a 6am wake up to catch the train in time and walk to the university. But I love it.
