I had no idea where to start for this trip.
I didn't know any details of the school at this point, so I took a safe bet and decided to fly into Beijing, via Moscow with Aeroflot. I travelled from London on a Monday which turned out to be a god send as the plane was virtually empty; I had 3 rows all to myself. I was living in a land of luxury and leg room, bliss. The flight was surprisingly short (only 3 hours) so it seemed like no time at all and I was disembarking at 8pm (local time). Moscow was a lovely temperature; around 20*c with a slight breeze, which made sitting on the airport floor very comfortable. Unfortunately, unlike Britain, Russia doesn't seem to mind flying on a Monday, so you can imagine my dismay when I realised every single seat on the plane was booked. Bad times for a girl with long legs and a long flight. The orange colour-scheme was a little sickening, but the orange hostess uniforms compensated by giving me a good giggle; they looked like they'd been dipped into an orange paint pot head first. The flight food was nothing special, just salad and rice, but the hostesses looked at me like I was a freak every time I only ordered water; I only realised towards the end that everyone else was drinking either alcohol or green tea and no water at all. I'm personally not a tea convert, but I have been told that will change during my trip.
We eventually landed, and by that time I really needed to stretch; I thought I had lost my left buttock forever! It did however regain consciousness while I waited for 30 minutes in Immigration, which had both ups and downs. On the plus side, I had feeling back, but then again the agonising pain of posterior pins and needles was horrific!
I eventually found my rucksack circling a conveyor, and hunted for the exit. My efforts however were hampered by the fact that I'm sure my bag ate a hog roast and a 3 course meal on the pane. Either that or it had turned to cannibalism and had eaten all the other luggage. Dam thing…
