Now in Hong Kong after 5 days of touring the North of Thailand. This was an extremely interesting trip with the opportunity to visit some of the 9 tribes that live in this region. Our trip included staying in a Lisu village and sampling some excellent cuisine. I will never get used to sitting cross legged to eat.
We got to see many temples and found that we couldn't quite explore the whole cave system when we stopped for a tour as we both found it too claustrophobic.
We just happened to be in Thailand for the Buddhist new year Songkran and the water festival. This involves people in the villages and towns soaking all passers by. We went for an elephant ride followed by a trip down river on a raft , the same river we had crossed with our elephant Jumbo, so our mahoot met us with Jumbo to give us a farewell shower. As we ventured down stream we met another boat being paddled upstream by an enterprising man selling refreshments to tourists further down there was quite a gathering of people celebrating and one little boy thought it would be fun to come and splash us. He was inside an old tyre inner tube, what he didn't bank on was me splashing back and he suddenly slipped down, fortunately the river was very shallow and he did not drown.
We also had a river trip on the Mekong and a brief venture into Laos just to tick another country off our list.
As we arrived late last night we are a bit tired today but intend to do some exploring of HK.
