The picture is of a Weka. Fairly common and quite trusting it seems. This one appeared at the van when we parked up to see the Pancake Rocks. But back to the beginning. This morning was cloudy with a sea mist in on to the coast. We left Greymouth under gloomy skies. As mid morning approached the clouds (yawn) started to disappear and we were left with cloudless blue skies and a temperature above 20. It was 25 when we got here. This is getting boring isn't it. I won't mention the weather again unless it drops to 15 or so. So we got to see the Pancake Rocks and a Weka, travelled north towards Nelson, calling in to experience NZs longest swing bridge. Essentially a suspension bridge about a foot wide and wire handholds. Only one of us enjoyed the experience. Found a good site right on the beach and will be staying here for 2 nights. Intend to explore the north west coast from here tomorrow and have booked into a recommended cafe for dinner in the evening, called the Boat Shed Cafe. Menu looks good. Time as I write this is 17.41. Time for a beer methinks or is it a bit early? Too late, already poured! Just discovered we are under the flight path for Nelson airport. Hope they don't fly too late.
