Guys, apologies for the lack of updates lately. I assure you that I had a very witty and highly amusing blog written for you all when the internet decided it would stop working and I lost the whole bloody thing! Don't you love technology (dad I'm looking at you)
It's been an absolute heat wave here lately, with the last three days hitting above 35 degrees celsius. Yesterday was the worst day with the mecury topping round 38. Needless to say working in this weather hasn't exactly been paradise but we had one day off and they've given us a few extra breaks to hit the pool and just try and relax. The bunk has been unbearable and it's probably an indication of what it will be like once the kids arrive. With 11 guys now in our bunk (max is 13) all sweating like pigs it's almost impossible to cool down despite the line up of fans running 24/7. Most of the time it's better to drag a mattress outside!
We've had a few new additions to the pre-camp crew since I last wrote, we've got 2 israelis, 2 more kiwis (they now outnumber the aussies), 3 hungarians and a ukranian girl. Somehow the israelis have managed to negotiate their way out of doing maintenance so we're all a bit jealous of them swaning around during the day while we do exciting stuff like digging, cleaning and mowing.
The food hasn't improved at all and it's more noticeable in the heat when you lose your energy really quickly and stay full for about 30 mins. Having dinner at 5:30pm is killing me!! I have to hoard food at lunch just to survive later in the day.
We had another trip off site which was VERY exciting. I never knew going to the supermarket was such a privelage. The best aprt was checking out the sports store next door and finding runners are 1/3 the price back in Aus. I think I'm in heaven.
It's our last week of maintenance this week before the international staff start streaming in and I'll be glad to be rid of the bloke in charge of us, Lee. The guy is a wanna-be Commando who has possibly the biggest chip on his shoulder known to man. He's been working with us for weeks now and still refers to us as "Boy" or just points.
Things are really starting to kick into gear with camp and I'm starting to really look forward to the other boys coming over (awww) and getting into the proper work. I will miss the peace and quiet of the camp each arvo, ahh the serenity.
take care guys and keep me updated with the upcoming Origin game and all your exciting lives, miss you all!
