The Orphanage and other Bhandari Charities
It was very exciting to see the progress made at the orphanage. A new office was built, a second floor over the nursery was completed and the mound of rubble where all the mice and rats lived was gone and replaced by a sanitary looking wash place. I didn't dare take a look at the bathrooms because I would prefer to imagine them as upgraded as the rest of the property appeared. All the children I once knew were gone- adopted or married - understandable after 14 years. Both the Bhandaris looked great at 75 and 76 years old. Their charities have really grown with opening a center for abused women, and a rest home for the elderly. The rest home was very impressive. The facilities are beautiful, the grounds are complete with gardens, and all very environmentally friendly. Sidewalk lighting and hot water are solar powered. Cooking is also powered by a solar conductor. Many places in Rajasthan have solar panels to heat their water. Could India be ahead of the US in this respect. If Indians are using solar panels, it can't truly be all that expensive. There must be added fees or tax in the US market which keeps the prices high. Anyway it was a very interesting visit. When I heard and saw the retirement home, I thought my questions of what I will do when I'm too old to work were answered. However, admittance is very selective and they'd never allow a foreigner- of course. Suppose I still need to keep my eyes open for that perfect bridge to sleep under through my golden years.
