Sunday 5th April
So we left the busy capital and arrived in Chiang Mai on Sunday early morning after 12 hour (sleepless) bus journey. Chiang Mai is much nicer, more relaxed and greener place than Bangkok. Still hot and sweaty though; well April is the hottest month in Thailand so the temperature is well above 30 degrees day and night. We had a look around famous local Sunday market which is much more relaxed than markets in Bangkok, everything is cheap and we liked so many things but had to resist as we're carrying enough as it is(you don't really realise it until you're walking around the town for 30min trying to find the hotel :). We bought the train tickets to our next destination- Ko Samui (finally beaches!) and had our first tuk-tuk ride in Thailand. We didn't really use them in Bangkok as we heard that they take people to places they didn't ask to go to as certain shops, because they get commission and overcharge, but we had to experience it and it certainly was exciting. We're looking forward to trips and activities we booked for following 3 days, yay! as there are many interesting places to visit around Chiang Mai.
Monday 6th April
We woke up nice and early 7.30am for our trekking adventure, after breakfast we were taken first to Orchid and butterfly farm. Then moved on to elephant riding through the jungle of the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, I was a bit scared to sit on elephant first or even feed it but we enjoyed the ride and took pictures of some amazing views. Our group consisted of 6 people- me and Mike, funny and very talkative 63 year old Irish guy, polish guy who lives in Bangkok, he buys cheap clothes and sells them in Poland, 2 dutch girls and our Thai guide. Everone was very nice and friendly, I guess people who travel are, most of the time, friendly and like-minded so it's easy to get on. After the elephant ride we went for jungle trek to the waterfalls you can see on pictures. It was amazing to dip in cold water after an hour of walking. On the way to waterfalls we stopped for lunch, sat on rocks by a river and were given Pad thai noodles wrapped in banana leaf from our Thai guide called Chai. The best part of the day was probably white water rafting, which we have never done before but definitely enjoyed and would like to do it sometime again, after white water rafting we chilled on bamboo rafting. Unfortunately we have no pictures as we couldn't take our cameras with us cause we got very wet. Now we are enjoying a beer in our hostel, updating the blog and just relaxing after adventurous day.
