I only had one breakfast today! We talked to reception about the watersports beach and they said we could walk it in 10 minutes. It took a bit longer as we went in every shop to try to find reasonably priced suncream. We failed in our mission and just had to bite the bullet and buy an expensive bottle.
The beach was a sight! The water was full of speed boats going in all directions, pulling parachutes, flying fish, banana boats - it's a wonder they didn't all get tangled. We spoke to a man who let us pay $20 for a trip to the pontoons in a glass bottom boat to snorkel and then on to turtle island. We had seen pictures and it looked amazing! A beach covered in turtles!
The boat took us to the pontoon and I put my goggles on and jumped in, I felt a sting on my arm straight away I got back out as I saw Hannah back on the pontoon, she was having trouble with her goggles. I asked about jelly fish in the water and they said there were none. I got back in the water, followed by Hannah. Sarah decided not to join us. We saw some pretty fish, puffer fish and could see people doing the sea walker at the bottom of the sea, it was very funny. I spotted some jelly fish and got back on the pontoon. I joked with some of the workers saying they'd lied to me about them but they said they didn't know as they had a wetsuit on. I offered to swap my bikini but they weren't too keen!!
One man working there asked us to go in with him and I went in. He pushed and pulled me through the water to show me the best fish, diving down to make them dart around. He tried to get me to do it too but I couldn't! He was really nice, and like all other Balinese we've met was really tying to give us a great experience. However, after a few more stings on my legs I decided it was time to go in. We waved goodbye and got back on our glass bottom boat, he took us over the sea bed where we saw anenamies, long eel like fish, star fish and loads more!
Then we pulled up to turtle island, something we'd been looking forward to all holiday. Well today was the first time Bali has disappointed us. It is just another part of the island and we arrived on the beach. We paid to enter and had a guide who showed us the turtles and explained the conservation process while we fed them. This all seemed fine but they were in tanks and not on the beach as we'd thought. Then he showed us some other animals and it was really sad, they didn't have much room, they had concrete enclosures and nothing to do. We left there pretty quick and went back to our beach on the boat. After such a busy start to the day we decided a pool afternoon was in order! We sunbathed, swam, drank Cokes at the pool bar and tried to take some cool pictures - there are three Perspex holes at the bottom of the pool that over look the lobby. Sarah went down to the lobby to take the pics while Hannah and I dived down. They came out very cool!
We decided for an early dinner as we had missed lunch so went back to the room to play cards, update the blog and get showered. We walked along from our hotel and looked at the different restaurants and did some shopping. Dinner was lovely, we went for the Italian option of pasta and pizza, Hannah splashed out on a large bintang and I had a strawberry milkshake. Sarah had a leaflet on her bed about an acoustic evening on the roof of our hotel so we made our way up there. After a long rendition of 'imagine' the singer asked us where we were from and if we had any requests. Sarah suggested Jason Mraz and they played 'im yours'. They tried to get Sarah up singing but she didn't.
They then carried on, asking for requests and talking to the guests. They seemed to know every song! They played English, Balinese and even some Chinese songs! Guests started to get up to sing, an Australian family, two Chinese guests, so we plucked up the courage and sang Ed Sheran 'thinkin out loud'. Then they couldn't get us off the mic, we took it in turns going up, all three of us sang, they gave us their guitar to hold. They were so lovely and we had an amazing evening, even if we did clear out the place! There were two honeymooners who got brave near the end of the night when there were only us, them and one other lady left and they got up and sang love songs to each other, it was beautiful although she was much better than him! I acted as their photographer!
When the night ended we tipped the singers for their great entertainment and went to bed on a high, not before one cheeky game of Yanni!!
